Linking an RFID tag to a geofence

A fixed-location RFID tag can be linked to a geofence. PILOT takes tag detections into account when identifying visits to the geofence. This helps record visits correctly even when the object’s GPS coordinates are temporarily inaccurate.

RFID tag management is available if:

Before linking an RFID tag, add it to the system:

1. Open Main and select RFID Tags

2. Create a new tag or edit an existing one

3. Enter the tag ID. It must match the identifier transmitted by the RFID reader

4. Enter the Latitude and Longitude. The tag’s coordinates must be within the geofence to which you want to link it

5. Select Fixed Location

6. Click Save

If the tag’s coordinates are outside the geofence, PILOT will not allow the tag to be linked. Check the tag’s coordinates or the geofence boundaries.

1. Open Main and select Geofences

2. Select the checkbox next to the required geofence to display it on the map

3. Make sure the RFID tag is located within the geofence

4. Right-click the geofence and select Manage RFID Tags

5. Find the required tag and select its checkbox in the Link column

To find a tag by its name or ID, use the Search field.

To display only the tags already linked to the selected geofence, select Linked.

6. Click Save

The RFID tag is now linked to the geofence. If the tag’s coordinates are outside the geofence, PILOT will not allow the tag to be linked.

When an object detects an RFID tag linked to a geofence, PILOT processes the detection regardless of the object’s current GPS coordinates. As a result, a visit can be recorded even if GPS data places the object outside the geofence.

A geofence visit is the period between entry and exit, rather than each individual detection of the RFID tag.

Therefore, multiple RFID tag detections do not always create separate visits. For example, if an object moves away from the tag and then detects it again while its GPS coordinates remain within the geofence, the current visit does not end.

Click the RFID tag marker on the map to open its tooltip.

The tooltip displays:

The tooltip header shows the object that most recently detected the RFID tag. If the tag has not been detected yet, no object information is available.
